James E. Zechman
Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Zechman has been the Chairman of the Board and CEO of AMI since he co-founded the company with Dr. Sarnat in 1997. He brings significant experience in management, finance, operations, sales, regulatory and legal experience to AMI. From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Zechman was Executive Vice President with UtiliMED, a national diagnostic imaging utilization management company, where he headed national sales and marketing and was an active member of its management team. Mr. Zechman was the founder and President of Apwel, Inc. an international trade finance/import-export company from 1988 to 1992. Prior to founding Apwel, Inc., Mr. Zechman was the Managing Vice President for Merrill Lynch Government Securities specializing in risk management on the global derivative markets from 1976 to 1988. From 1975 to 1976, he held various options trading positions on the floor of the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
In 1999, he was named “Person of the Year” by Dynamic Chiropractic magazine. Both Mr. Zechman and his business partner, Dr. Richard Sarnat, received the 2000 “Presidential Citation Award” from the National College of Chiropractic as well as the 2000 “Leadership Award” from the American Academy of the Chiropractic Physicians. Mr. Zechman is a former trustee of both the American Academy and Lakeland Health Services, now part of the Northshore University Health System.
Mr. Zechman received his BME (with honors) from Drake University, his MA (with honors) from the University of Denver and a LLD, Honorary Doctorate Degree from the National University of Health Sciences where he was the commencement speaker in 2002.
Mr. Zechman enjoys travel, reading, golf and career mentoring.
Richard L. Sarnat, M.D.
President and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Sarnat is AMI’s co-founder, President and Chief Medical Officer. A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Sarnat now practices integrative medicine and has become a recognized leader in the field of alternative medicine as an author, speaker and researcher. His first book, Physician Heal Thyself: What Every Practitioner Should Know about Alternative Medicine, is highly respected as one of the leading books in the field. He has been instrumental in developing several successful entrepreneurial healthcare-related companies, anticipating the value of leveraging new technologies married with natural medical management strategies to improve outcomes. Dr. Sarnat served as a trustee of the National University of Health Sciences from 2001 through 2010 and on the board of directors of New Chapter Inc. from 1993 – 2012. Dr. Sarnat received his A.B. at Washington University in Saint Louis (Phi Beta Kappa), and was nominated for Rhodes and Oxford scholarships. He received his M.D. from Rush Medical College in Chicago, and completed his residency at Northwestern University.
Vice President, Client Services
Ms. Eldridge is a thirty plus year veteran of the healthcare industry. She has extensive experience in management, sales, operations, product and information system development for conventional, complementary alternative and integrative medical delivery systems. Ms. Eldridge has designed and built innovative national, regional and local HMO, PPO, EPO and workers’ compensation products. Working with health benefit payors, providers and consumers, she has built a strong reputation for delivering quality and patient-centric programs for companies such as Prudential Insurance Company of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Private HealthCare Systems, Ltd., HealthCare COMPARE/AFFORDABLE, Kennedy Consulting Group, Community Care Network, Inc., various state Medicare/Medicaid programs and her own consulting firm Eldridge & Associates, Inc. A published author, Ms. Eldridge received a B.A. from Miami University of Ohio and earned her MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in 1991, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She is currently completing doctoral work towards a PhD. in Theology and Integrative HealthCare.
Dr. Ronald J. Farabaugh
AMI National Physical Medicine Director
Dr. Ronald Farabaugh was hired into the role of AMI National Physical Medicine Director in the fall of 2015 after previously consulting with AMI during the development of the IMDIS® platform. Dr. Farabaugh has been in practice since 1982 when he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He served as President of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association in 1996 and served as Treatment Guideline Chairman (2001-2004) In 2003 Dr. Farabaugh was appointed to serve on the Council for Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP). He was elected Chairman of CCGPP in 2009. Dr. Farabaugh was appointed by Governor Strickland to serve on the Ohio State Chiropractic Board in 2010, and was elected President of the Board on October 20, 2011. In 2012 Dr. Farabaugh was appointed to serve on the Official Disability Guideline (ODG) Advisory Board. He is certified in Low Speed Rear Impact Crash Reconstruction and Soft Tissue Traumatology, and holds a subspecialty as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. In 2015 he was elected to the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) and serves as a Councilor representing clinicians.
Dr. Farabaugh is the founder/owner of ChiroLtd., a chiropractic consulting company which develops products to assist doctors in the development of an evidence-based practice. He founded the Farabaugh Chiropractic Office in 1985 and aside from his new responsibilities with AMI continues his practice, serving the people of Columbus Ohio and the surrounding area.
Garrett Gawne has been involved with AMI since interning in the summer of 2010.
Currently serving the executive team Mr. Gawne previously helped establish and managed the outpatient authorization department of the AMI Group.
Before taking that position at the suburban Chicago location for AMI, Mr. Gawne worked for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando Florida. Mr. Gawne graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a B.S. in Business Management and Administration with a Global Scholar designation.
Assistant Vice President
Will Kelly has been with AMI since 2012, starting as a data entry analyst with the outpatient authorization department. He would be named supervisor and eventually manage the entire authorization department before earning the title of Assistant Vice President.
Mr. Kelly has years of experience with physical therapy and chiropractic coding and insurance benefits. Previous to AMI, he worked with the U.S. Missions to Austria and Belgium with the classified and unclassified technical support teams. Mr. Kelly graduated from Lake Forest College (IL) with a B.A. in History.
Wilma Gonzalez has been the Credentialing Manager at AMI since 2003. Mrs. Gonzalez manages the daily operations of the department ensuring accurate timelines, provider data, and updated verifications and credentials for over 1500 physical medicine providers. She works collaboratively with clients and has a perfect annual audit score per NCQA Credentialing standards and guidelines.
Prior to her time at AMI Mrs. Gonzalez worked in the Health Care Industry for 15 + years including One Health Plan’s call center providing on demand authorizations for One Health Plan Providers. She also worked at Independent Health Physicians, performing claims processing and stop loss recovery, as well as PCP referral processing.
